In highschool my teachers tried to discourage me from being a fashion designer, they said it was really hard to actually make a living and it would be better to go to university and do something safe.. and I always told them that if everyone had that attitude, then everyone would be naked.

Follow your dreams no matter what - do what makes you happy… if you want something badly enough and are willing to work your ass off for it - anything is possible!
